Brattle Square Church (second) is built.

It is located on today’s City Hall Plaza (then Brattle Square). Samuel Cooper, the son of the first pastor and a noted preacher, succeeds his father and serves as pastor from 1725 to 1783. The church is replaced by a new building (third) on the site of today’s New City Hall in 1773,* and then by a new building (fourth) in the Back Bay in 1873.*
